Today’s ABA: An Effective and Humane Approach for Addressing Problem Behavior


Training Description

This hour long training offers both a live session, hosted on August 5th, 2025, and a pre-recorded session, available from August 6th – September 5th, 2025. A contemporary and trauma-assumed version of applied behavior analysis for consideration when working with autistic persons or those with intellectual disabilities, especially when problem behavior is probable, will be described. The values at the forefront of this compassionate ABA approach will be explained along with their implications for how to respond to both mild and severe forms of problem behavior.

Training Objectives

Participants will be able to:
• Describe the three values that have implications for how to respond to problem behavior.
• Describe critical knowledge for staff who provide direct support to individuals with autism.
• Articulate how to respond to problem behaviors were they to resurge during skill based treatment.

Target Audience

Educators, Speech and Language Therapists, Board Certified Behavior Analysts, Mental Health and Behavioral Health Therapists & providers, Other Professionals, Parents.

About the Presenter

Dr. Hanley has 35 years of experience improving socially important behaviors in individuals with and without disabilities. He has worked in various roles, including direct care, management, and academia. He was tenured at the University of Kansas and directed the Behavior Analysis Doctoral Program at Western New England University. Dr. Hanley is a Fellow of the APA and has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles.
