Tammy Dasher is a special education teacher at Pace High School, where she has been working for the past 21 years. Over the years she has taught students with a range of learning differences, but she currently teaches social skills to students with Asperger's Syndrome.

Tammy received her BA degree (Special Education, Learning Disabilities and Emotional Handicaps) from the University of West Florida. She also received her MA (Clinical Teaching of Students with Emotional Handicaps) from UWF. In 2000 she became a National Board Certified Teacher in the area of Exceptional Student Education. After working at a summer camp for students with autism, Tammy was inspired to learn more about Applied Behavior Analysis. She received her Board Certified Behavior Analyst credentials in 2011.

In addition to her teaching position at Pace High School, Tammy helps conduct a social skills group for teens in her area. She also hones her ABA skills by working part-time at Spectrum House, a private clinic for students with autism or developmental delays.

PEPSA Partner: Proposed Project (2012)

Project Description:

Tammy is planning to use reverse inclusion to try to get her students more engaged with their peers during lunch. She is going to solicit different clubs in the school to sponsor a new guest each week to provide some sort of activity that would appeal to all students and particularly her students. For example, one of her guys loves origami. She would like to bring in an expert, advertise the event to the whole school, and see who shows up. In this way she hopes her students can make some connections with other kids who share their lunch and their interests. She thinks asking different clubs to sponsor different weeks will help with the planning and ensure that the activities are diverse and more students will attend.
